A friend you met last year has invited you to visit him/her in his/her country. You have never been there before and need some information before you leave.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:

• thank him/her for inviting you
• ask about activities and clothing in the country
• find out what food is commonly eaten

You do NOT have to write any addresses.

Write about the following topic:

Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic:

News editors decide what to broadcast on television and to print in newspapers. Some say they should not hold so much power over decisions and that an outside group, like the government or a journalist organization, should be able to investigate and correct poor decisions. Do you agree with this position?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.
